The FIA officially crowned Rob Huff as the 2012 FIA World Touring Car Champion at its Gala awards evening in Istanbul, Turkey, today.

The eighth season of the FIA World Touring Car Championship saw the three Chevrolet works drivers fighting for the Drivers’ Championship and giving the American car maker its third consecutive Manufacturers’ Championship.

After finishing twice in third position (2008 and 2010) and once second (2011), Huff eventually claimed his first World title, beating his team-mates Alain Menu and Yvan Muller.

The FIA honoured the 2012 World Endurance Champions during the FIA Gala in Istanbul, Turkey, surrounded by the other champions from world motor sport.

Audi secured the Manufacturers title with its R18 e-tron quattro, adding the FIA World Endurance crown to the 24 Heures du Mans title the German manufacturer secured in June, which was the first victory for a hybrid car at the prestigious 24 hour race. 

The 2012 FIA GT1 World Champions received their title trophies and the plaudits of the international motor sport community at the annual FIA Prize-Giving Gala, held in Istanbul this evening.

The Italian Flavio Camponeschi has won the CIK-FIA World Karting Championship for the first time in the 49th edition, which was held over two events, in Japan and in Macau. As for the other World Championship, reserved for Drivers under 18 years old, it was landed by Britain’s Henry Easthope, and the French Manufacturer Sodi won the title of World Champion for Makes.

The annual FIA Prize Giving Gala, held in Istanbul, Turkey, took place this evening and winners and champions from around the world were honoured.

The final 2012 meeting of the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) took place today, 5 December, in Istanbul. The FIA President, Jean Todt, opened the meeting by thanking Demir Berberoglu, Műmtaz Tahincioglu and the Turkish Automobile Sports Federation for their hospitality and for hosting the week of FIA meetings in Turkey. The following decisions were taken.

The FIA received a letter from Scuderia Ferrari, seeking clarification on Sebastian Vettel's overtaking manoeuvre in Sao Paulo on Sunday.  

In the spirit of transparency and goodwill, the FIA wishes to make public the receipt of this letter.
