After a wet start to Friday practice at Interlagos, teams had hoped for drier weather in the afternoon. Instead, the clouds grew darker and heavier rain fell on the outskirts of São Paulo. What didn’t change was the dominance of Nico Rosberg.

Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg was the fastest man as the first free practice session as Interlagos was dampened by persistent light rain. Rosberg went into P1 with a time of 1:24.781 early in the session. His time did not face a serious challenge and when the chequered flag fell, he had an advantage of nearly half a second over team-mate Lewis Hamilton. Sebastian Vettel was third for Red Bull Racing after a late surge, while Jenson Button was fourth for McLaren.

Sebastian Vettel took a commanding win at Austin’s Circuit of the Americas to win the US Grand Prix for the first time and break Michael Schumacher’s nine-year old record for most consecutive wins in a season into the bargain.

Starting from pole, Vettel cruised to victory at COTA, only being headed for two laps following his sole pit stop for the harder of the two tyre compounds on offer on lap 28.

After team-mate Mark Webber and brief leader Romain Grosjean then visited pit lane for their stops, Vettel resumed at the front and controlled proceedings until the end.
