Alonso heads FP1 in Melbourne

Fernando Alonso topped the opening practice session of the 2014 season, finishing half a second clear of second-placed Jenson Button and third-placed Valtteri Bottas. Alonso, whose best lap of 1:31.840 was over 4.5s slower than last year’s best FP1 time, recorded 30 laps of the Albert Park circuit on his way to the top of the timesheet.

2014 Event Details - Spa-Francorchamps

Inaugurated in 1922 as an open-road course in the Ardennes region, it underwent many changes to the layout and the facilities during the years. The current layout dates back to 2007. It has been home to 47 editions out of 59 of the F1 Belgian GP, from 1950 to 2013. It hosted the FIA WTCC only once, in 2005.
