The International Historical Commission (CHI) meets twice a year and provides a forum to discuss concerns and exchange information between FIA member club representatives with a view to furthering the preservation and enjoyment of historic vehicles. The Chairman of the CHI, FIVA’s immediate past President and Honorary President, Michel de THOMASSON, chairs the meetings. This collaboration offers the FIA and the FIVA the possibility to work together to pool resources and expertise, and to speak with a single voice on matters of joint concern.
A milestone was reached in the CHI this past year, within the framework of the CHI’s Museums Working Party, where the development of a microsite for historic vehicle museums was completed. The FIA Mobility Administration has supported and managed this project, and the microsite, which showcases museums with historic cars, motorcycles, trucks and buses, as well as military vehicles around the world, went ‘live’ in October 2012. The CHI Secretariat called on members to provide photos to populate the microsite, and the large number of high-resolution photos gathered from members has enabled the CHI to choose from its own stock of images. This new microsite, which also has a link on the newly re-looked FIA website and FIA social media pages, may be viewed at: www.fiaheritagemuseums.com .
Due to the open, easy access to the listing by the public and an easy procedure for updating or adding new museums, it is hoped that the number of museum entries, already at 185, will grow rapidly over the coming months. The CHI’s Museums Working Party will also explore ideas for showcasing specific museums on a monthly basis.
