The 31-year-old Briton looks back – and forward – ahead of his milestone weekend in the WTCC.

Back when you started did you ever think you’d get to this milestone of 100 WTCC races?

“Honestly I can’t believe I’m at 100 races – time flies by when you’re having fun and the championship is fantastic. This is my fifth year in the WTCC and I’ve loved every minute of it. I’m very excited to join the WTCC 100 Club!”

Can you pick out a best moment from your time in the championship?

“It’s all been good! Even my first year when we were struggling it was still good fun. I like the respect amongst all the drivers. The championship always organises really nice functions. Here I’ve been given a fantastic strawberry cake and I love strawberry cake. The sun shines in the World Touring Cars but probably getting my first WTCC win in California, beating Yvan Muller. That was quite special to me because he’s my hero so that would be my defining moment.”

And what about joining the WTCC 200 Club one day…

“I’m still young but it all depends if I can find the sponsorship. I’m an independent driver and every year I rely heavily on my sponsors. If they pull out I might find myself in another championship, which I don’t want to do. Just like Tom Coronel, who is another independent driver, we love this championship and we try so hard to find the budget. And we keep trying because we love it.”
