“We are very happy. I realised a very good lap time on new tyres and the gap between Olivier (Pla), myself and Roman is very close. Nice and consistent. I did 25.5, Roman 25.4 and Oli did 25.3. Great!

“The thing that is incredible is the tarmac. It is saving our tyres incredibly. No drop off really at all. No degradation. It is like a go-kart, really amazing. You can do a very good lap time after 10 or 15 laps. Even off the racing line it seems very good and no real problems with rubber pieces because the tyres are keeping so well. We are smiling a lot now but again I say there is much more to happen this weekend in Brazil on the track.”

Darryl O’Young, Aston Martin Racing, No.99 LMGTE Pro

“The car has been running really well all day. The grip levels with the new surface is amazing which suits our car. In the low speed corners it feels so nice and we have a good advantage over the others here I think.

“Tyre degradation is dependent on track temperature but we haven’t seen anything that significant really. I hear it will be quite hot for the race so tyre choice in qualifying tomorrow will be crucial. But the team are performing really well, great communication and we feel comfortable right now but we know there is much more running to come tomorrow and on race day.”

Antonio Cazzago, Team Manager SMP Racing, No.27 LMP2

“We are changing a part on the rear suspension (top-link bracket) right now but it is not big deal. As everyone can see from the times there is a big gap to the Ligier but we are just going to run our own race and see where we are at the end. It can still be very exciting I think.”

Pierre Kaffer, Lotus, No.9 LMP1

“A much better day for us and I feel glad for the boys because they have had tough times in the last few races. The car is improving a lot in the corners and we have the same great power on the straights. We had a very small sensor issue in FP1 but on the whole we are happy with the running here today.”
