WEC - Porsche tops damp final Free Practice session

After a 45-minute delay to the start of the session due to the low cloud conditions not allowing the medical helicopter to take off, the final Free Practice session of the 6 Hours of Nurburgring weekend got underway in very different conditions from yesterday.  The track started wet but started to dry as the 60-minute session progressed.

At the chequered flag it was the no1 Porsche 919 with the fastest lap after Mark Webber set a 1m41.002, just 0.005s slower than the best time set on day 1.  The Porsche was 0.291s ahead of the no5 Toyota Gazoo Racing TS050 of Anthony Davidson, with the no8 Audi of Lucas Di Grassi third quickest with a 1m41.542 lap.

The no13 Rebellion Racing R-One continued to set the pace in the LMP1 Privateers, with Alexandre Imperatori setting a 1m46.901.

The no26 G-Drive Racing Oreca made it three from three in Free Practice topping the times sheets once again with a 1m50.260 lap by Rene Rast.  The German was 0.723s ahead of the nearest class rival, the no44 Manor Oreca-Nissan of Antonio Pizzonia.

Ferrari posted a 1-2 in LMGTE Pro with the no51 F488 of Gimmi Bruni posting a 1m57.145, 0.220s ahead of the no71 Ferrari of Davide Rigon and nearly a second ahead of the no67 Ford GT of Harry Tincknell.

In LMGTE Am the no88 Abu Dhabi-Proton Racing Porsche of David Heinemeier-Hansson set the quickest lap, a 2m00.360, in the final session before qualifying for the 6 Hours of Nurburgring.  The gap was nearly 0.6 seconds ahead of the no83 AF Corse Ferrari of Rui Aguas.

Qualifying for the 6 Hours of Nurburgring will begin at 14h15 later today starting with the LMGTE competitors, followed by LMP at 14h45.
