Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup -
Round 10
Hockenheim, Germany

Michelle Gatting has finished her debut season in the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup fourth overall in the Junior classification after this year’s 10-round season. The 18 year old Dane selected by Volkswagen Motorsport and the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission contested the final round at Hockenheim this weekend, finishing fourth of the Juniors and eighth overall in a star-studded race.

As usual, the 29-car grid featured the Legends, Pro-Cup and Junior racers and this weekend stars from Formula One, Sportscars and DTM joined in the season finale at the Hockenheimring, including Christian Danner, Emanuele Pirro, Frank Biela and Markus Winkelhock.

Michelle had her best qualifying session of the season, benefitting from knowledge gained at the circuit during the opening round back in April. In dry conditions, she qualified seventh of the 29 cars but during the race she used the ‘push to pass’ too early, losing a few positions before climbing back into eighth overall.

“I’m disappointed, this result wasn’t good enough,” said Michelle. “But, I have learnt an incredible amount this year and am feeling confident about the 2013 season. I have to give a very special thank you to the people at Volkswagen Motorsport, Cathy Muller for helping me at each race, and the Women in Motorsport Commission for also having faith in me.”

In order to capitalise on her experience, Michelle will once again contest the Scirocco R-Cup next year with on-going support from Volkswagen Motorsport and the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission. This weekend she was also joined by Susie Wolff, one of the Commission’s Ambassadors who was competing in the DTM race at Hockenheim.
