Porsche and Aston Martin Lead the Way in First Belgian Free Practice

The two Porsche 919 hybrids topped the timing sheets at the end of the first Free Practice session of the WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps weekend in Belgium.  The no1 Porsche of Brendon Hartley set the quickest time of the session with a 1m58.012 lap, 0.565s faster than the no2 919.  The no6 Toyota of Mike Conway was third quickest with a 1m59.429 lap, 0.554s ahead of the no7 Audi of Marcel Fässler.  The no13 Rebellion Racing R-One of Dominik Kraihamer was the quickest of the three LMP1 Privateer entries with a 2m04.157 lap time.

 The bright green Tequila Patron sponsored ESM Ligier of ‘Pipo’ Derani posted the quickest time of the twelve LMP2 class entries with a 2m08.974, 0.055 ahead of the no26 G-Drive Oreca of René Rast and 0.135s in front of the no36 Signatech Alpine of Stéphane Richelmi.

The two LMGTE classes were headed by Aston Martin with the no97 Vantage of Johnny Adam setting a 2m19.296 lap less than 0.5 seconds ahead of the leading AM car, the no98 Aston Martin of Pedro Lamy with a 2m19.748.  Ferrari was second and third in PRO, with the no51 of Gimmi Bruni setting a 2m19.810 lap ahead of Davide Rigon in the sister F488.  The second placed AM car was the no50 Larbre Competition Chevrolet Corvette of Paolo Ruberti with a 2m20.156 lap, 0.4s ahead of Patrick Long in the no88 Abu Dhabi Proton Racing Porsche 911.

The second 90-minute Free Practice session will take at 16h30 (local).
