Once again this year, the FIA was present at the Mexico ePrix to convey key messages on road safety to spectators of the race. Its stand in the eVillage showcased two awareness initiatives which are part of the broader FIA Action for Road Safety Campaign.

During his visit, Miguel Angel Mancera expressed his support for #3500LIVES, the first Global FIA-JCDecaux Road Safety Campaign which was displayed on the stand. Featuring 13 ambassadors from the sport, music and film industries, it will be deployed in more than 70 countries including Mexico in 2017, with the aim to spread awareness on key risk factors and call on all road users to sign the FIA Manifesto for Global Road Safety.

Another highlight of the stand was the FIA Global Programme for Child Safety. Developed by the FIA through the FIA Road Safety Grant Programme, it aims at helping Member Clubs to implement initiatives on child safety in cars. In Mexico, FIA Clubs, OMDAI and ANA, in cooperation with the Mexican Red Cross and SEMOVI, the Mobility Agency in Mexico City, launched at the FIA stand the #YoCuidoAMisHijos campaign. A central element of this campaign is a petition, calling for more robust legislation on child restraint systems in Mexico, which was supported by Mayor Mancera at the end of his visit.

The FIA stand also announced the 4th UN Global Road Safety week entitled "Save Lives: #SlowDown" which will take place from 8-14 May and will address the issue of speed as a key risk factor for road crashes.

Open all day on Saturday, the stand attracted many motor sport fans and families who enjoyed listening to the video messages of the #3500LIVES campaign’s famous ambassadors and learnt more on how to use child seats properly. They also expressed their support for better protection for children travelling in cars in Mexico by printing their own #YoCuidoAMisHijos photo and sharing it on a special wall of the stand.
