Kout - Elkmann: The duel awaits

30.06.15
The Bugatti circuit at Le Mans will host the second of three Competitions of the 2015 CIK-FIA European Superkart Championship on July 3rd to 5th during the great festival of the ACO.

The number of entries at the Sarthe is significantly higher than at the first Competition with 35 registered Drivers. The French will be out in force at home to compare against their opponents, with some Germans complementing the ranks.

In the absence of the triple European Champion Emmanuel Vinuales, the win at Le Mans and the Championship should be fought, unless anything unforeseen happens, between the Czech Adam Kout (MSkart / DEA) and the German Peter Elkmann (MSkart / VM). Both Drivers won a race each in Britain and are tied leaders in the provisional standings. Besides their dominance in Europe this season, they have actively continued their preparation work for the French Competition.

To find out who can keep up with them on the track, we must turn to the Drivers who have went well at Donington. Gavin Bennett (Anderson / DEA), the triple European Champion on his last season in Division 1 before devoting himself to single cylinder karts, remains a benchmark of the discipline and showed that he was able to join in the fight at the front. The Dane Henrik Lilja (PVP / PVP) has been on at least one podium each season. Behind in terms of top speed in Britain, he can count on investment from his builder Poul Petersen, to extend his good results at Le Mans. Andreas Jost (Anderson / VM) has become an enigma this year, with his engine failing in one Race out of two. Intrinsically he should be able to fight with the leaders, but his results are not yet at the level of his expectations. The Redspeed Team will have to prepare its equipment well for the Drivers, including the Finn Vesa Lehtinen (Anderson / DEA), who is determined to take revenge after a particularly difficult competition at Donington. Another team member, Dutchman Marcel Maasmann (Vice Champion 2012) is equipped with a FPE engine. He was previously one of the underdogs, but is a formidable finisher. One of the surprises of Donington was the excellent performance from Jason Dredge (Anderson / PVP) who was on the pace of the factory PVP. Now he has to confirm that performance.

The German Daniel Hentschel (Anderson / DEA), missing in Britain, is back in the paddock to interfere with the contenders, while the absence of Carl Hulme is unfortunate. Le Mans should see the first participation from a Colombian, Jaime Zuleta.
