FIA Formula 3 Championship to race on the Algarve

03.05.15
A change in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship calendar: instead of Moscow Raceway, the young drivers will be competing for points and positions at Portimão in Portugal.

The race weekend at the 4.684 kilometres long Autodrómo Internacional do Algarve will take place together with the Blancpain Sprint Series, 4 - 6 September. A few days before, the official FIA Formula 3 European Championship mid-season test days will be held at the same venue.

Last year, the FIA Formula 3 European Championship raced at Moscow Raceway for the first time. Initially, another visit to Moscow was planned for this season. Due to the huge logistical efforts and the accordingly high travel expenses, teams had asked for the event to be reconsidered. The organisers have accepted this request. Together, the series promoter and the FIA have searched for an alternative, which was found with the event in Portimão. For the FIA Formula 3 European Championship, this will be the first event at the track on the Algarve coast that was opened at the end of 2008.

Another reason in favour of the event in Portimão was the possibility to stage the official mid-season test there. This test will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday (1 - 2 September) prior to the race weekend.
