14.09.14
Martin, Smeeth and Bianchi take victories in Race 2

It was a very exciting Sunday in Silverstone, England, which was playing host to the first European Ferrari Racing Days and the fifth round of the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli. The crowds began rolling in from early in the morning to soak up the Ferrari atmosphere and watch a busy programme of track action: free practice for cars entered in the special XX and F1 Clienti programmes and the Ferrari Challenge races.

Yesterday there was an amazing parade of Prancing Horse cars, started by Scuderia Ferrari test driver Marc Gene, to celebrate the 2012 achievement, organised by Ferrari North Europe, of setting a new Guinness World Record for the biggest number of cars in one parade, with 964 taking part. Today, the Spanish driver did some laps at the wheel of the F60, which drew a great response from the crowd.

The key events on the programme were the European Ferrari Challenge races, which produced close
racing with the fight going to down to the wire in the various events.

In the Trofeo Pirelli Pro category, Englishman Alexander Martin, driving for Motor Piacenza won the second race of the weekend, ahead of Italy’s Dario Caso, flying the flag for Rossocorsa-Pelling Racing
and the young Italian Daniele Di Amato for Motor Piacenza. In the Am category, there was an amazing win for Englishman Sam Smeeth (Stratstone Ferrari) with an overall win in his home race. Second was Giacomo Stratta (Forza Service,) with Belgian’s Florian Mercky third for Kessel Racing.

As for the Coppa Shell, there was a fantastic double for Max Bianchi (Kessel Racing) who completed a perfect weekend, as he also set the fastest race lap in 2.10.102. Runner up was the Dutchman Fons Scheltema (Kessel Racing,) who right to the last, tried to retake the lead. On the third step of the podium came Belgium’s Jacques Duyver (Motor Piacenza.) The championship contenders resume battle in Istanbul over the weekend of 24-26 October for the penultimate round before the Finali Mondiali in Abu Dhabi.
