FIA, Motorsport, Mobility, Road Safety, F1, WRC, WEC, WTCC, World RX

In second FIA Formula 3 European Championship qualifying at the 7.004 kilometres long Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, George Russell (HitechGP) showed the best performance and claimed pole position for the 20th race of the season. Joel Eriksson (Motopark) followed in second place from Nikita Mazepin (HitechGP) and Mikkel Jensen (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport). With third place in the Belgian Ardennes region, the Russian scored his best FIA Formula 3 European Championship qualifying result to date. In the ranking of the second-fastest laps, used to determine the starting grid positions for the third race of a meeting, Russell also came out on top from Eriksson, Ben Barnicoat (HitechGP) and Callum Ilott (Van Amersfoort Racing).

Starting grid race two
George Russell (2:12.110 minutes) already moved up into first place before the halfway point of the session and defended this position until the end. Joel Eriksson (2:12.218 minutes) turned out to be his fiercest rival, taking second place with a gap of 0.108 seconds. The Swedish rookie driver had to worry until the final moment, because his fellow rookie Nikita Mazepin (2:12.403 minutes) tried everything to improve his third place. Mikkel Jensen (2:12.554 minutes) also only moved up into fourth place with four minutes remaining. Next up were Ben Barnicoat (2:12.566 minutes), Callum Ilott (2:12.599 minutes), Anthoine Hubert (Van Amersfoort Racing, 2:12.646 minutes), Maximilian Günther (Prema Powerteam, 2:12.700 minutes), David Beckmann (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport, 2:12.793 minutes), and Guanyu Zhou (Motopark, 2:12.853 minutes) rounding out the top ten. Although the Formula 1 circuit with its legendary heritage is the longest on the FIA Formula 3 European Championship calendar, a little bit over seven kilometres, the lap times of twelve drivers were within one second.

Starting grid race three
In the classification of the second-fastest laps, George Russell (2:12.156 minutes) also came out on top. The other top ten slots went to Joel Eriksson (2:12.374 minutes), Ben Barnicoat (2:12.654 minutes), Callum Ilott (2:12.748 minutes), Anthoine Hubert (2:12.800 minutes), Nikita Mazepin (2:12.817 minutes), David Beckmann (2:12.830 minutes), Maximilian Günther (2:12.988 minutes), Lance Stroll (Prema Powerteam, 2:13.148 minutes), and Nick Cassidy (Prema Powerteam, 2:12.264 minutes).

George Russell (HitechGP): “For me, this was a really good qualifying. For the first time today, the track was dry, so that we had a new situation to deal with. Compared to first qualifying, we changed our tactics and we succeeded in getting a better track position. That was a strong performance by the entire team and we are doing our utmost to convert the pole positions tomorrow and the day after tomorrow into race wins.”
