Ferry is a well-known figure in European road safety through his work as Director of Public Affairs for the Royal Dutch Touring Club (ANWB). He succeeds John Dawson who served as chairman of EuroRAP since its foundation in 2002. Ferry is also a member of the FIA Policy Commission.

In addition to serving on the EuroRAP board, Ferry holds a number of key roles in the Dutch road safety and automotive sector including a role in the programme advisory board of SWOV (the Dutch institute for road safety research) and chairing a board of experts of car crime prevention.

Ferry said: ‘It’s a great privilege to be appointed as chairman of EuroRAP. The next few years are an exciting and challenging time for our organisation as we work towards halving deaths and serious injuries on Europe’s roads by 2020. EuroRAP members have a vital role to play with governments, road authorities and European institutions to help deliver a safer infrastructure that saves the lives of all road users.’

Ferry praised EuroRAP’s outgoing chairman describing him as ‘an inspirational figure in European road safety management.’

The European Road Assessment Programme (EuroRAP) is an international not for profit association set up in 1999 and registered in Belgium that is dedicated to saving lives through safer roads.

The programme aims to reduce death and serious injury through a programme of systematic assessment of risk, identifying the major shortcomings that can be addressed by practical road improvement measures. It forges partnerships between those responsible for a safe road system – civil society, motoring organisations, vehicle manufacturers and road authorities – and aims to ensure that assessment of risk lies at the heart of strategic decisions on route improvements, crash protection and standards of route management.
