FIA, Motorsport, Mobility, Road Safety, F1, WRC, WEC, WTCC, World RX

The climax to one of the closest and most hard fought FIA European Truck Racing Championship seasons in recent memory is set to be concluded at the Le Mans Bugatti circuit this weekend.

In the final instalment of a year packed with action, rivalry and spectacle, the competitors will engage one more time for some of the most spectacular racing in motorsport.

Four races and 90-points will be up for grabs this weekend in the FIA ETRC Driver Championship, as all-eyes will be on points leader Jochen Hahn (Hahn Racing) and second placed Adam Lacko (Buggyra International Racing System). Hahn leads Lacko by 35-points but any slip by the German could see the two take the title battle right down to the wir

The struggle for supremacy in the FIA ETRC this season has seen Lacko score 13 wins as opposed to Hahn’s 12. In the first half of the year Lacko seemed to have a very slight advantage, but consistency has been the German’s strength and has seen the points gap emerge between the two in the second half of the year. Hahn can afford to play the percentage game at Le Mans but Lacko will be determined to fight for a possible first ever title.

What has been doubly impressive has been the healthy and respectful rivalry that has developed between the two. No inch is given on the track but off it the two have an easy affinity with each other and share in the ‘hard but fair’ sporting ethic of the FIA ETRC.

If the intensity for the overall title is grabbing the attention this weekend, so too will the dramatic conclusion of who will finish third in the standings. René Reinert (Reinert Racing), Steffi Halm (Reinert Racing), Norbert Kiss (Tankpool24 Racing) and Anthony Janiec (Lion Truck Racing) are all separated by just 31-points as they each push for third position.

Janiec will be competing on home ground and will arrive in Le Mans on the back of his first win of the year, having taken victory in the final race at Jarama.

Sascha Lenz’s season came alive at Most last month and the young German has not looked back since showing improved pace and reliability with his family run MAN truck. After another strong points haul in Spain last weekend he has now overtaken Gerd Körber and secured seventh position in the current rankings.

Körber returns this weekend after missing the Jarama races. The German veteran will be aiming to take back the position in the championship but must claw back a 17-point deficit to Lenz.
