*Twenty-one-year-old returns on Rally Rzeszow
*Hungarian hopeful plans to build on experience gained
*Klausz: “ERC is a really good championship”

Kristóf Klausz is returning to FIA ERC Junior action on Rally Rzeszow this week (3-5 August) because of the strong competition he’ll face and the clear career progression on offer.

The 21-year-old from Hungary stepped up to the European Rally Championship from his domestic series in late 2013 and has spent the last two seasons competing in ERC Junior in his Pirelli-equipped, Klaus Motorsport-run Peugeot 208 R2.

Armed with that crucial experience and motivated by the 100,000 euros offered to the ERC Junior Under 27 champion to use for an ERC Junior Under 28 campaign in 2018, Klausz can’t wait to get started.

“I have always thought that the ERC is a really good championship and the Junior category is very strong,” said Klausz. “When we compete during these hard and long races we actually see our progression and development way better. We have the possibility to race on high-standard events and this is the key to develop ourselves. And because of the prize money we go for the races with even bigger motivation.”

Klausz, from the city of Pápa in Hungary, is set to contest the remaining four rounds of ERC Junior Under 27, which is for drivers born on or after 1 January 1990. “We have experience of most of these races and we’ll use this to improve our speed,” he said. “On the other hand, there are races we need to get familiar with as soon as possible.”

He continued: “Last year on every single race we faced with some difficulties. Sometimes we had technical problems, because of those we could not accomplish the races as we planned. This year we start a completely new episode in our racing career and we will do our very best to fulfil our goals. In ERC Junior Under 27 the drivers are very good so it will be a great result to perform well and succeed.”

Jean-Baptiste Ley, the ERC Co-ordinator, said: “Kristóf has highlighted a number of benefits that are available through competing in ERC Junior so it’s great he’s coming back to make the most of those opportunities for a third season. Year on year, Kristóf has progressed well and we look forward to seeing more of the same in 2017.”

Botond Csányi will co-drive Klausz, one of 13 ERC Junior Under 27 drivers in action on Rally Rzeszow and one of 14 registered for the championship so far.
