With the appointment by the FIA of a promoter of international renown (IMG), a new impetus will be given to the FIA European Rallycross Championship (formerly known as the FIA European Championship for Rallycross Drivers) as from 2013.

The key changes concern the discipline’s blue riband category, namely the SuperCar, for which a new event format will be inaugurated: the number of participants will be fixed at 25 per event (20 to 21 permanent entries, 2 Wild Cards, 2 to 3 drivers from the pre-qualifications) and the number of races will be increased to 33, due to the adoption of a round-robin format followed by semi-finals and a final. Something to celebrate for the drivers, spectators and for the TV!

The two support categories (Super1600 and TouringCar) both retain their usual event format, with three qualifying rounds, preceding a succession of three finals (C-B-A).

Among the other changes in the regulations, we can announce that the number of engines will be limited to three per season (the use of any additional engines giving rise to a penalty), that the exclusion resulting from a false start will be transformed into a penalty requiring the completion of two Joker Laps, and that all the results will be counted towards the establishment of the final classification of the European Championship. In SuperCar, every race (including the qualifying rounds, which number 6 per driver) will be rewarded with Championship points, which means that for a driver who takes part in each of the ten Championship events, there will be 60 to 80 opportunities to score points!
