Ardigo Picks Up Memorable Karting Trophy
07.12.2007

Marco Ardigo completed a memorable season after collecting his CIK-FIA World Karting Championship trophy at the FIA Gala in Monaco.

The 44th edition of the CIK-FIA World Karting Championship, which is run over one single event, took place at the Karting des Fagnes circuit, in Mariembourg (Belgium). It was a milestone for Karting, with the introduction in 2007 of a brand new generation of engines and the replacement of the former top category, Formula A (100 cc), by KF1 (125 cc).

Tipped to win the title because he had successively won the European Championship and the World Cup in Japan earlier in the season, the Italian Ardigo again proved his dominance in achieving his first Karting world title.

Marco Ardigo said:

“For any Karting Driver, the World Championship means the top and when I won it, a dream came true. In 2005 my dream had turned into a nightmare as I was about to win in Braga (Portugal) when a broken water radiator forced me to retire a few laps from the finish. This time, I took the chequered flag even though I must admit that I feared the same misadventure as in 2005 would happen again. When I reached the last straight line just before the finish I gave free rein to my joy.”

For his employer, the Tony Kart Racing Team, Marco Ardigo’s success was coupled with clinching the CIK-FIA World Cup for Teams, which rewards the best overall performance of a team.

Tony Kart boss Roberto Robazzi said:

“Winning the World Cup for Teams, thanks to the double achieved by our drivers Marco Ardigo and Gary Catt, was the peak of a very successful season for our team. Last year Tony Kart had taken the last World Cup of the 100cc engines era, and winning the first one held with the new generation of engines justifies Tony Kart’s competition investments and our determination to obtain outstanding results in all circumstances.”
