Sébastien Loeb has maintained his overnight lead in the Movistar RallyRACC Catalunya - Costa Daurada after the second leg. The French Citroën Xsara driver only won two of the day’s six stages but heads into the final four on Sunday with a 34.4 second advantage after nearly 250 kilometres of competition.
The Xsara WRC crews continue to dominate the head of the leaderboard with Daniel Sordo also winning one of the stages - a first in his career - to maintain second overall. However, team-mate Xavier Pons, third overnight, went off the road in the 10th stage and, as he was unable to continue, third position is claimed by Alexandre Bengue in a privately-run Peugeot 307 WRC.
After dropping to 10th overnight following his turbo problems yesterday, Marcus Grönholm has powered up the leaderboard into fourth position. Three stage victories today now see the Finn just 4.1 seconds adrift of an impressive podium position; such has been the pace of the Ford Focus on asphalt. Jan Kopecky and François Duval round off the top six, with former FIA World Rally Champion Petter Solberg slipping from fourth to seventh overnight after struggling for grip on the dry mountain roads.
