On a day to day basis the decisions and work of the FIA are undertaken by its elected officers. It is carried out a on a strictly voluntary basis with all positions, including the President, being unpaid. However, this daily work is supported by the FIA’s Secretariat.
The FIA’s officers are drawn, in principle but not exclusively, from the FIA member clubs and elected for fixed terms by the FIA body relevant to their competences and responsibilities. For a number of officers in high positions, notably the President, terms are also limited.
