One of the core responsibilities of the FIA is the development of motor sport worldwide. Through its national member clubs the FIA is involved in every level of motor sport and its remit extends to the millions of amateurs and professionals who enjoy motor sport in all of its variety
In 2007, the FIA launched the Motor Sport Safety Development Fund, which will distribute $60 million over five years for the benefit of motor sport across the globe. This Fund is controlled by a Committee under the administration of the FIA Foundation.
The appointed members to the Committee are Max Mosley and Michael Schumacher (both FIA Foundation Trustees), Nick Craw, President of the Automobile Competition Committee for the United States (representing National Sporting Associations), Jean Todt (Ferrari) and Norbert Haug (Mercedes).
The intention is to fully disperse the Fund over a five year period and to concentrate activities on a Young Driver Safety Scholarship Programme, an Officials Skills Safety Training Programme and a Facility Safety Improvement Consultancy Programme.
