The FIA honoured the 2011 FIA GT1 World Champions during the FIA Gala in New Delhi this evening, the first time this prestigious event has been held in India. Surrounded by the other champions from world motorsport, Germany’s Michael Krumm and Lucas Luhr were crowned GT1 World Driver Champions after an exciting second season.
Driving for the British-based JR Motorsports team, Krumm and Luhr secured nine top-three finishes, including four race wins, in their Nissan GT-R. Their nearest rivals, Darren Turner and Stefan Mücke, driving an Aston Martin DB9 for the Young Driver AMR team, won the penultimate race of the season in Beijing to take the challenge all the way to the final round in Argentina.
However, an accident during Pre-Qualifying meant the Aston Martin was damaged beyond repair. Turner and Mücke were forced to sit out the final two races of the season, but they had done enough to secure the Vice Champions position. Third place in the Championship went to the reigning FIA GT3 European Champion Christian Hohenadel and his co-driver Andrea Piccini. The German/Italian pairing, driving a Hexis AMR Aston Martin DB9, scored one race win in Germany and kept up a consistent challenge throughout the season to finish in the top three as the final chequered flag was waved.
Michael Krumm said:
“It’s been an incredible year and only now that I have been presented with the award for winning the FIA GT1 World Championship Drivers’ title has it really sunk in. The season didn’t start so well, but then to win four races really put us in a great position to secure the title at the last round in Argentina. I have to thank everyone in the JRM team, Nissan, NISMO and of course Lucas, for all they have done to make this achievement possible.”
Lucas Luhr said:
“Receiving the award for winning the FIA GT1 World Championship for Drivers is a perfect end to what has been a fantastic season. The Nissan GT-R has been strong at most of the circuits we’ve been to this year and we won more races than any other team. Of course, this gave us the advantage. I therefore must thank Nissan, NISMO and JRM for providing us with such a great car and Michael for doing such a great job.”
Hexis AMR secured the World GT1 Team title with its Aston Martin DB9 cars, adding the FIA GT1 World crown to the FIA GT3 European title that the French team won in 2009. It was a nail-biting end to the season, with Hexis AMR, which had led the points for the first half of the season, lying in third place ahead of the final round in Argentina. An incredible performance by their two cars, driven by Christian Hohenadel, Andrea Piccini, Stef Dusseldorp and Clivio Piccione, saw the team take 40 points in the last race of the year, to finish three points ahead of JR Motorsports and four points in front of Young Driver AMR.

We went into the last round at San Luis hoping to finish in the top three, but everyone worked so hard and we got the result we needed to win the World Championship. I’d like to thank everyone at Hexis for their dedication, their courage and extraordinary team spirit, exceeding their limits on so many occasions. And special thanks must go to our pit-stop crews, who are truly World Champions now! Our thanks also to Aston Martin, to SRO for organising such a great Championship, and to the FIA. To receive the World Championship trophy is the highlight of my career and we will hope to defend our title in 2012 with the new McLaren.”

LES CHAMPIONS DU MONDE DE GT1
RECOMPENSES AU GALA
La FIA a distingué ce soir-même ses Champions du Monde de GT1 2011 lors du Gala qu’elle donnait pour la première fois en Inde, à New Delhi. Entourés des autres champions du sport automobile mondial, les Allemands Michael Krumm et Lucas Luhr ont été sacrés Champions du Monde de GT1 à l’issue d’une seconde saison passionnante.
Courant pour l’équipe JR Motorsports, basée en Grande-Bretagne, Krumm et Luhr ont décroché neuf podiums, dont quatre victoires en course, à bord de leur Nissan GT-R. Leurs rivaux immédiats, Darren Turner et Stefan Mücke, au volant d’une Aston Martin DB9 pour l’équipe Young Driver AMR, ont remporté l’avant-dernière course de la saison à Pékin et les ont défiés jusqu’à la manche finale en Argentine.
Toutefois, suite à un accident survenu lors des pré-qualifications, l’Aston Martin a été déclarée irréparable. Turner et Mücke ont dû déclarer forfait pour les deux dernières courses de la saison, mais ils avaient suffisamment d’avance pour s’assurer la position de Vice-champions. La troisième place au Championnat est allée au Champion d’Europe FIA GT3 en titre Christian Hohenadel et à son copilote Andrea Piccini. Le tandem germano-italien, au volant d’une Aston Martin DB9 Hexis AMR, a remporté une victoire en Allemagne et s’est battu tout au long de la saison pour finir dans les trois premiers sous le drapeau à damier.
"Cette année a été incroyable et ce n’est que maintenant en recevant le prix pour le titre de Champion du Monde GT1 pour Pilotes de la FIA que je réalise vraiment. La saison n’a pas très bien commencé, mais gagner quatre courses nous a vraiment aidés à décrocher le titre lors de la dernière manche en Argentine. Je tiens à remercier tout le monde au sein de l’équipe JRM, Nissan, NISMO et bien sûr Lucas, pour tout ce qu’ils ont fait pour rendre ce résultat possible" a déclaré Michael Krumm.
"Recevoir cette récompense pour avoir remporté le Championnat du Monde GT1 pour Pilotes de la FIA est la conclusion parfaite d’une saison fantastique. La Nissan GT-R a été performante sur la plupart des circuits parcourus cette année et nous avons gagné plus de courses que les autres équipes. Bien sûr, ceci nous a donné l’avantage. Je remercie donc Nissan, NISMO et JRM de nous avoir fourni une voiture aussi formidable et Michael pour avoir fait un aussi bon travail" a ajouté Lucas Luhr.
Hexis AMR a décroché le titre de Champion du Monde GT1 pour Equipes avec ses Aston Martin DB9, venu s’ajouter au titre de Champion d’Europe GT3 FIA obtenu par l’équipe française en 2009. La lutte a été âpre en fin de saison : Hexis AMR, qui était en tête pendant la première moitié de la saison, a été reléguée à la troisième place juste avant la manche finale en Argentine. Une performance incroyable des deux voitures, pilotées par Christian Hohenadel, Andrea Piccini, Stef Dusseldorp et Clivio Piccione, a permis à l’équipe de totaliser 40 points lors de la dernière course de l’année, et de finir trois points devant JR Motorsports et quatre points devant Young Driver AMR.
Philippe Dumas, Team Manager de Hexis AMR, a lui aussi manifesté son enthousiasme : "Cette année a été fantastique, être sacré Champion du Monde de GT1 est tellement important pour nous tous chez Hexis. Nous sommes peut-être une petite équipe, mais nous sommes extrêmement bien organisés et très professionnels. Nous partageons les bons comme les mauvais moments, c’est donc pour nous tous un succès formidable. Nous avons abordé la dernière manche à San Luis en espérant terminer dans les trois premiers, mais tout le monde a travaillé si dur que nous avons obtenu le résultat requis pour remporter le Championnat du Monde. Je souhaiterais remercier tous les membres de l’équipe Hexis pour leur motivation, leur courage et leur extraordinaire esprit d’équipe, ils sont allés au-delà de leurs limites en de si nombreuses occasions. Je remercie aussi tout particulièrement nos équipes de ravitaillement, qui sont elles aussi de véritables Championnes du Monde maintenant ! Merci également à Aston Martin, à SRO pour l’organisation d’un tel Championnat, et à la FIA. Recevoir le trophée du Championnat du Monde est pour moi le temps fort de ma carrière et nous espérons bien défendre notre titre en 2012 avec la nouvelle McLaren."
