Schuberth Supports Road Safety Campaign
Schuberth GmbH, helmet supplier to Formula One drivers Michael Schumacher, Nico Rosberg, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa, has become an official partner of the FIA Action for Road Safety campaign. At the Belgian Grand Prix the cooperation agreement was announced by FIA President Jean Todt and Schuberth CEO Marcel Lejeune.
President Todt praised Schuberth, describing the company as an excellent partner for the Action for Road Safety campaign. “Schuberth brings innovations from the F1 racetrack into serial production for motorcycle helmets. Its technology transfer is exemplary. The Schuberth presence in F1 is also an outstanding platform for raising awareness among young people around the world that they should never climb onto a motorcycle without a helmet."
Action for Road Safety is the FIA’s response and leading contribution to the challenges raised by the United Nations’ Decade of Action for Road Safety, the aim of which is to prevent five million road deaths and countless serious injuries over the next ten years. The campaign is particularly concentrated in the developing world, where 90 per cent of all fatal road traffic accidents occur, many of which involve motorcyclists and open-cockpit vehicle drivers riding and driving without a helmet. The campaign will raise awareness of the dangers associated with not wearing a helmet and support initiatives to improve education and provide better road safety training.
Schuberth will be an active participant in this education process but will also share with the FIA its theoretical knowledge and practical research in the highly specialised field of protective headgear design. Additionally, it will donate helmets styled with the Action for Road Safety logo. These will be showcased by the FIA and supplied to partners and FIA member clubs to promote the campaign.
The Belgian Grand Prix also marked the 20th anniversary of Michael Schumacher’s first F1 race. At Spa-Francorchamps the seven-times World Champion and road safety ambassador was presented by Schuberth with a commemorative golden helmet. The German manufacturer, Schumacher’s exclusive supplier for the last decade, has also donated a gold-plated replica of this commemorative helmet to the Action for Road Safety campaign.
