WTCC Promotes Brazil Charity
A board that symbolises the success of the charity initiative is presented on the grid at a WTCC race in Curitiba.

The opening round of the 2007 FIA World Touring Car Championship made a huge contribution to the Brazilian community by offering tickets in exchange for food for starving people in the country.

Over 24 tons of food was collected through a campaign which offered free tickets in exchange for one kilogram of food. The food was donated to the charitable society Instituto Pró-Cidadania de Curitiba, which distributed it to those most in need in Brazil.

Working together, the City Hall of Curitiba, championship promoter KSO, and event sponsor HSBC, set up 12 different points across the city for fans who wished to attend the race on Sunday to bring food.

On Sunday morning, on the grid for the first race and in front of packed grandstands, the Mayor of Curitiba, Beto Richa, the Chairman of KSO, Jacques Behar, and the Marketing Director of HSBC, Glenn Valente, presented to Fernanda Richa, president of the charity institute, a board that symbolized the success of this humanitarian initiative that will result in the distribution of 120,000 to 150,000 meals.
