FIA Foundation’s ‘Think Before You Drive’ campaign
has proved to be a huge success since its launch last
year and is set to enter a second year of promotional
activity.
This season both the FIA Formula
One World Championship and the FIA World Rally Championship
will have one permanent chief steward in attendance at every

column giving his views on the major issues in Formula

Austrian Federal Chancellor
Dr. Wolfgang Schüssel, the current European Union
President, took time out from his busy schedule to send
his best wishes and support to the FIA Bureau on its relocation
to new offices in central Brussels.
Formula One commercial rights
holder Bernie Ecclestone has praised the role FIA President
Max Mosley has played in increasing driver safety in the
sport.
The
joint safety symposium between the FIA Institute and
the International Council of Motorsport Sciences (ICMS),
held in Rome in January, was hailed as a huge success
by the 100-plus delegates that attended the event.
Former NATO Secretary General Lord Robertson
will lead an international Commission established by the
FIA Foundation to investigate the actions needed to improve
global road traffic safety.
A major
new regional road safety initiative for Latin America
and the Caribbean has been launched following a two day
workshop held in mid January in Santiago, Chile.
In December 2005 the European
Road Assessment Programme published its first progress
report providing a detailed account of the efforts made
by the countries involved to make their roads safer.
A Costa Rican seatbelt campaign,
carried out with the support from the FIA Foundation, has
won the prestigious Institute of Road Traffic Education
and Prince Michael International Road Safety Award 2005.
