Bridgestone Backs Green Campaign
Shoshi Arakawa, Chairman of the Board, CEO and President of Bridgestone Corporation.

Global tyre manufacturer Bridgestone has entered into an agreement with the FIA to be the official partner for the Make Cars Green campaign.

Bridgestone has a strong track record in campaigning and was integral to the success of the FIA Foundation’s Think Before You Drive Campaign.

Shoshi Arakawa, Chairman of the Board, CEO and President of Bridgestone Corporation, said: “Environmental preservation is one of the most critical issues of our time. At the Bridgestone group, we have been expanding and enhancing eco-conscious management activities to provide a safe environment for future generations. Our collaboration with the FIA is an excellent opportunity to globalise our initiative. I am sincerely looking forward to working with the FIA on the Make Cars Green Campaign.”

As part of the agreement, Bridgestone will support the production and distribution of a campaign leaflet outlining the FIA’s 10 points for greener motoring. The leaflet will be available in numerous languages for distribution by FIA member clubs worldwide.

The leaflet will form the basis of the main launch of the Make Cars Green campaign, which will take place on World Environment Day on 5 June in Wellington, New Zealand. FIA President Max Mosley will be present at the launch event alongside the New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark.

World Environment Day is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and enhances political attention and action. As the sun rises first in New Zealand it is fitting for the country to kick-off the series of regional launches across the world.

To accompany the launch of the consumer leaflet, the FIA will also publish a document aimed at policy makers and senior members of the automotive industry. The publication will highlight the work of both FIA Sport and Mobility and how it has played its part in promoting environmental causes.
