| The annual Congress of Latin American clubs was attended by high level representatives from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru and Uruguay. Also attending were representatives from Spain and the FIA’s Paris headquarters.
Delegates took the opportunity to inform each other of key mobility policy campaigns which had taken place across the region over the past 12 months. Many clubs in the Americas have run hard-hitting media campaigns on road safety and several presentations were devoted to this important subject.
Those attending the Congress agreed that the growing problem of forged International Driving Permits needs to be urgently addressed throughout the region and they resolved to step up their efforts to tackle the issue. Other subjects discussed included cooperation between clubs in providing assistance services and initiatives to provide driving schools for motorcyclists.
As road safety was a running theme of the conference, delegates welcomed presentations on the Make Roads Safe campaign and the crucial car safety technology Electronic Stability Control (ESC).
The organisers from Chile’s auto club had put much work into preparations for the Congress. The club hoped that hosting the conference would have a dual benefit - improving its profile amongst the clubs in South America and its image at home. |
