| Whiting, who has been involved in motor racing for 40 years, has been a longtime proponent of motor sport safety. He was a leading member of the original Expert Advisory Safety Committee, which has been responsible for introducing most of the major safety measures that have been brought into the Formula One, such as the collapsible steering column and the Head And Neck Support device now worn obligatorily by every driver. He is also the FIA Safety Delegate at every Grand Prix.
Dr Michael Henderson, Chairman of the Australian Institute for Motor Sport Safety, has been instrumental in the promotion of safety features in vehicles for the roads and for racing. His seminal book "Motor Racing in Safety" and the development of the original GQ/Williams six-pointed harness promoted the use of safety harness equipment in both European and Australian motor racing.
As well as his leading role at the Indianapolis Speedway, Dr Henry Bock was also head of medical services for the Indy Racing League since its inception in 1996. He remains a professor at the Indiana University School of Medicine and on the medical staffs of two Indianapolis hospitals and continues to serve the Speedway and IRL as an adviser.
