ADAC to Host Conference Week

Cologne - set to be the scene of the 2006 FIA Conference Week.

The 2006 FIA Conference Week will be held in Cologne after Germany’s Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil Club (ADAC), stepped in to host the event.

Following difficulties with the original venue it was still undecided where the 2006 Conference Week would be held. However, during the FIA General Assembly in Rome representatives from the ADAC volunteered to host the event to ensure that it could take place as planned. The ADAC is confident that the infrastructure will be ready in time for the four-day conference to take place in May next year.

ADAC President Peter Meyer told the FIA General Assembly in Rome that the club would be prepared to host Conference Week in Germany, despite it being a very busy period for tourism in the country in the build up to football’s World Cup.

Meyer said: “We are delighted to host this prestigious event. We expect to have a fruitful exchange of ideas and views on the various subjects of mobility and the automobile.”
Cologne was chosen as the host city because local organisers have experience of putting on such a large event, having hosted the FIA General Assembly in 2001. It also has the available accommodation to host the delegates.

FIA Conference Week is the annual forum for the national automobile clubs to meet and discuss mobility issues such as consumer protection and road safety. It is apt that the event will be hosted by ADAC, the biggest automobile club in Europe and the third biggest in the world.

The club has 15.4 million members, 7,500 employees and 180 outlets throughout Germany. On the sporting side it organises 3,000 motor racing events, including Formula One’s European Grand Prix at the Nurburgring.
